Windows 10 remains unupdated for a decade.
I've been struggling with Windows 10 version 1703 for over two years. Whenever my PC attempts an automatic update or tries to force it, it keeps failing. The error message reads: "feature update to Windows 10, version 1903 - Error 0x80242006." The installation crashed during the apply image process. I've tried all the steps Microsoft recommended—reset, update assistant, DISM, SFC commands in the command prompt—but nothing works. I'm curious if using a Windows key purchased from eBay might be the issue, even though it seems to work correctly. Anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this?
I'll perform a fresh installation using a bootable USB drive.
No, it doesn't replicate the same effect as running the Media Creation utility directly on the same machine without a USB connection.
Create a bootable USB using Rufus or a media creation tool, then start your computer from that USB drive. This method differs from performing a reset without using the USB.
This process either wipes your current data or leaves your existing backups intact depending on the settings you choose. Since you don’t have a storage solution yet, you’ll need to decide whether to start fresh or preserve what you’ve saved.
They won’t even set it up, mainly because I need it to be version 1903 for Modern Warfare, which needs at least 1803.
