You recently bought a new laptop and cleared the SSD to install Windows 10 Pro. After entering a new license key, everything worked until the activation screen reported the license was invalid. The process didn’t support activation via your Microsoft account, which you used on your desktop. Although the digital license claims multi-device use, the interface doesn’t allow activation through that method. You can still activate using the key from the laptop, but this is only available for Windows 10 Home.

I already possessed the key; I purchased it some time ago for $10.

Purchased an unauthorized key, but Microsoft has canceled it. Buying keys from unlicensed or grey-market sellers carries a significant chance the key won’t function, and you won’t have options to raise concerns.

It's highly advised to purchase keys from such platforms as soon as possible.

Does this indicate you attempted to turn on the same key on both PCs simultaneously? Unless specified otherwise, each system should have its own key. The exception applies to volume keys which might or might not connect via the license server (KMS). These aren't intended for private users, though they are sold—but it's uncommon for Microsoft to blacklist them. So the choice here is: You're trying to activate two PCs at once, which won't work unless you have separate keys. This key is flagged or sold to someone else who has done it successfully. If that's the case, you've lost $10. Accept it.
