Windows 10 reduces performance unexpectedly during gameplay.
Hello! I experienced this problem yesterday while playing CS:GO. My game suddenly minimized, and I initially thought I accidentally pressed the Windows key. Later, I realized it was happening automatically. Do you know if anyone else has faced this issue? I’m using Windows 10.
The game reduces its performance when it becomes too focused. This behavior exists because many games run in Windows Exclusive Mode, which optimizes hardware usage by removing desktop elements. The outcome is the disappearance of the traditional "windows" interface. To prevent the game from taking over your system and enabling multitasking, it adjusts by minimizing the desktop when it detects high focus.
The loss of focus often stems from background applications such as auto-updaters, browser alerts, antivirus software (including Windows Defender), and input devices like keyboards or mice. Cloud sync programs can also trigger notifications. Without knowing the exact cause, you should limit startup programs to three or four: OneDrive (or your chosen cloud storage), anti-virus/mouse/keyboard tools, and any auto-updater apps. Review Task Scheduler for additional startups. If you have more than four programs, it may be unnecessary. Consider switching browsers or disabling notifications if they’re the source of the problem.
