Hi there, I'm working on setting up a gaming PC and expected an operating system. I'm considering Windows 10 Pro for around $100, but I noticed a free Education version at the university. Would you have any advice on which one is better? I'm a bit unsure about the free option because I'm not familiar with its restrictions. Thanks!

The education edition matches Windows 10 Enterprise. My friend tested it on a specific version without restrictions. You might also find useful information in the Microsoft Reddit discussion, where you can obtain Windows 10 keys at low costs.

During my college years they provided us with several window licenses at no cost since it was funded by our semester tuition. These were complete licenses with no conditions. About five years ago this policy ended, so I’m not certain how things have evolved. I’d recommend purchasing a license just in case the free option isn’t reliable.

It seems you're wondering if the license key might be valid for a limited time.

Typically, free school licenses offer unlimited 'home'-style versions (education licenses that include most common features), intended for use during a student's school term. Once the term ends, they should no longer be needed. Of course I emphasize 'should' since Microsoft doesn't actively terminate these licenses.

I'm pretty doubtful the license keys will expire.

Using this useful chart helps you understand your choices. You'll be missing Cortana and some features such as Applocker and Windows to Go.
