I made the changes to my tech preview to be welcomed by a large DL. The installation process was quite lengthy. It turns out this update came through a Win10TP release—so if you're using Tech Preview, your confirmation is important.

Eventually when my Windows 8.1 Pro finally runs, I’ll ask for feedback.

It's correct—you've moved up to the newest 10240 version, which is the last one available.

I'll rely on it as my primary operating system for the upcoming semester... I'm preparing to write a thesis about this topic...

Yes, they are connected via USB 2.0 directly, but you'll need compatible adapters if you're using them without one.

KB doesn't work with a mouse. I attempted to connect them using USB 2.0 without adapters, but nothing happened.

Check for the most affordable KB+M package and give it another shot? It could be that the KB and M aren't compatible, or maybe the motherboard isn't supporting the 8.1 version.

Both can operate independently, so it's unclear what issue exists.
