So I've got a computer with a network share, but... My other computers can no longer discover it on the network. I go in to the network settings, and it says 'no internet', and has no setting pertaining to 'discoverability'. I've goggled it several times, and the 'help' looks like it's for a 3 years out of date version of Win 10. This is frustrating, I've just wasted an hour trying to connect my laptop to my backup drive, and I'm getting nothing but errors, a troubleshooter that is completely useless, and no information off of the internet. >_> This PC is literally connected to the backup drive, I can access and use the files on the backup drive, but going to \\computername\ times out. Going to \\computername\backupdrivename insta-access... I disabled PIA just to see if that was the problem, but nope... Nothing has any effect on this, seemingly... Both desktops are Win 10 Pro, the laptop is Win 10 Home.

Open the Control Panel, then Network and Internet settings. Check if any connections are showing up.

Network exploration isn’t ideal; use the share map instead. Verify if IP connections function properly. Check permission configurations. Review share settings details.

Typing the name or IP didn’t seem to help. I updated the PIA, restarted, and now \\name\dir is working, but it still can’t locate anything. The only Mac laptop in the house finds it right away. I wish I could install Linux on this device permanently, though a lot of issues still need Windows for that machine.

If the drive mapping succeeds, rely on that method. Discovery tends to be problematic, but mapping is smooth, straightforward, and overall superior.

It simplifies the process when discovery helps locate the printer. I mapped it, but I completely missed copying the necessary file from my PC to the server. That’s something I’ll treat as a learning opportunity.
