Windows 10 on a Pentium 4 revival
Windows 10 on a Pentium 4 revival
Hey there... I’ve got a 12-year-old P4 670 with a 3.8GHz clock speed that I saved back in 2006. It’s been sitting in a box for five years now. I’m thinking about bringing it back to life and upgrading it. The specs I have are:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-8AENXP-D
- CPU: PENTIUM 4 670 3.8GHz
- RAM: 4GB DDR2 (X2)
- Storage: WD 350GB HDD (just got it for free)
- Graphics: GIGABYTE GT-710 VGA
- Power Supply: 350W, original stock
Right now I’m running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate. I’m planning to switch to Windows 10 32-bit Fall edition and set it up for the kids. My main concern is how well it will work on Windows 10 32-bit Fall. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
try installing Windows 10 and observe the results. it might be useful to upgrade to an SSD, especially for older systems. i installed one on a machine with similar specifications, which could actually match the original CPU.
Absolutely, Windows 10 64-bit isn't an option because it lacks necessary instruction sets.
It's interesting... This device uses an AMD Athlon 64 X2 from about 2005 and seems to work smoothly with a 64-bit version of Windows 8.1. I haven't tested it for Windows 10 yet.
The guidelines for the Pentium 4 differ significantly from those of the AMD processors available at the same period, reflecting distinct design philosophies and performance targets.
Hi Everyone, Just wanted to mention that the Windows 10 32bit Fall Creators Update has been working well on these setups over the past four weeks. I've noticed occasional slowdowns, which makes sense given the single-core CPU. If anyone has tips to improve performance further on Windows 10 Fall, please share. Also, my Power Options are set to High Performance and most visual effects are disabled. The main applications running are: Office 2016 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), HW Monitor, Share.it, and Advanced System Care with Driver Booster. For games, I'm playing NFS 2005 and a few classic retro ROMs from NES, SNES, and SEGA.
