I have 4GB of DDR2 memory and it functions well, so adding 8 gigabytes won't cause any issues.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. DDR2 is just bit slower as same amount of DDR3 would be.

It's merely a slower RAM speed. Windows relies on elements beyond RAM, like storage and CPU as well. I run Windows 10 on machines that consistently use DDR2.
