Hey there, I noticed my PC freezes unexpectedly during gaming, browsing, and even while installing a USB drive. It usually stops within five minutes of gaming, but becomes unpredictable otherwise. When it freezes, the system becomes completely unresponsive. I’ve only managed to fix it by holding the power button and performing a hard reset. I’m not very comfortable with Event Viewer, but I checked and found only entries related to my hard resets. There don’t seem to be any hardware-related logs. I’ve tried a few things: replaced the PSU, reinstalled Windows, updated BIOS, lowered RAM speed from 3200 to 3000, and ran MemTest86. It passed two passes with no errors, but froze during the third. I’m still unsure what to do next and need advice. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Thanks!

I believe I have a similar issue, possibly linked with a windows update, 3080 ti drivers, 'IAStorDataMgrSvc.exe' crashing, or 'Intel® Rapid Storage Technology service terminated unexpectedly' (I don't have optane or a raid setup, two separate C: and D: drives), in my i7 9700k experience. I do also believe there is a link between Intel's XMP and stability of the system. My crashing started to happen after installing new 3600 mhz ram, though. Just like you, I've ran memory diagnostic, processor diagnostic and picked up on 0 errors. Event viewer hasn't mentioned any hardware failures in my case, either.

That's intriguing... were you actually aiming for 3000 or did you mean 2933? Just curious, since most Ryzen models from that generation perform better at 2933 and tend to dislike 3000... if you haven't, consider trying 2933. The good news is we've identified the issue, and now the focus shifts to fixing it—starting with a 2933 MHz frequency.

It relates to XMP settings. After testing, the system works well at regular speeds. I'm trying to understand why XMP causes issues.

I think the correct value was 3000, and CPU-Z also confirmed it. I’ll test 2933 next and observe the results. It seemed odd that MemTest froze, but if two passes pass without errors, the freezing might just reflect general instability rather than RAM issues. I’ll lower the frequency further and let me know what happens!

2933MHz kept freezing after under five minutes in Witcher 3 Edit. Dropped to 2733MHz but still stuck. This time it was even quicker. Swapped the GPU to a 1660TI and a 2080TI, installed drivers, restarted, but the PC froze at login. Hard reset done, tried playing Witcher again and it froze. Also froze when checking the event viewer.
