Windows 10 may limit Google Chrome's performance.
Chrome has been acting quite poorly lately. Navigating to sites often takes longer than expected, sometimes showing an unreachable error. Refreshing helps but isn’t fast enough. When I switch tabs, the pages only load after selecting that tab. Interestingly, opening a slow page in Chrome causes Microsoft Edge to load it immediately. This makes me think Microsoft might be intentionally slowing Chrome to push users toward Edge, which is faster than Google Chrome. I’m prepared for this explanation since it’s likely to come up. My internet speed remains consistently above 50 Mbps, with an AMD Athlon X4 750K, 8 GB RAM, SSD, and more.
It might be another issue. Consider running mapwarebytes as suggested by @gbergeron and perform a startup scan through your antivirus software.
It seems odd here. Could be one of your extensions is malfunctioning? (If applicable) Perhaps your user profile is damaged? Here’s what to do: Press win+r, go to %localappdata%, navigate to Google, select Chrome SxS, and delete User Data. (Make sure you’ve backed up your data to your Google account—this will erase it.)
Reinstalling Chrome solved the issue. I often get caught up in details and miss the basics. *facepalm* Good to know I’m not a test-taker. Thanks for the feedback!
This situation is real. Windows 10 is limiting Chrome performance, pushing Edge instead. The update you installed fixed the problem temporarily, but a later update reintroduced throttling. For users facing this issue, follow these steps: press Control + Alt + Delete, open Task Manager, navigate to Services, right-click CryptSVC and select Stop, use Registry Editor by searching for it, go to HKEY_Current_Users > Software > Microsoft > SystemCertificats > Root, adjust permissions fully, delete the entire Root folder, restart your PC, and Chrome should run normally again.
Choose a browser that disrupts websites to test how pages behave under stress. This approach helps identify vulnerabilities and ensures stability when content changes unexpectedly.
If it exists, these platforms are poorly constructed. Or their creators have traded their independence for support from major tech giants like Microsoft and Google.
