I added classic shell and startup sound changer, but after restarting it occurred. I removed startup sound changer from my installation but the icon remains missing. I considered wiping my user account and starting fresh. Windows 10 Pro Anniversary update
Hello! I understand this thread came up again, but I’m glad you found a simple solution. At the time, I didn’t realize there was an easy way to fix it and ended up reinstalling Windows out of concern. The remedy is straightforward: 1) Launch Command Prompt as Administrator by searching for it in the Start Menu, right-click and select "Run as Administrator". 2) Execute the command "sfc /scannow" and hit ENTER. 3) After the scan finishes, restart your computer. This resolved the issue for me. I also experimented with changing the startup sound multiple times afterward, but the same problem persisted. It seems the issue was specific to my logged-in account and related to the Startup Sound Changer. I tried another workaround by logging in all users at once, adjusting the Startup Sound Changer settings, and then restarting. Unfortunately, this triggered a Blue Screen of Death. I gave up on that approach but found some advice in your post about keeping icons updated after a restore. I really wish someone could help you fix this without having to reinstall Windows repeatedly, or at least offer a helpful workaround. I hope this post gives you some guidance!
