I adjusted my settings to disable screen shutdown after inactivity, but it still doesn’t turn off the display. Both power plan and personalization options are set correctly, yet the screen remains on. I’ve experimented with different themes—one uses a 15-minute timer and another has no timer at all—but neither changed the outcome. My hard disk is configured to shut down after 60 minutes, which doesn’t seem to interfere. Could you check if that setting impacts the display behavior?

The issue is occurring after updating to W10 yesterday. This is my third home upgrade, and this is my first time facing it. The main change is having dual monitors on one machine. The screens stay on or sleep unless I lock the computer or power it off. I’ve checked for background apps but can’t find anything running. Please help if you can.

Navigate to Go Settings, then System, Power and Sleep, and adjust the preferences.

That's correct, the system is configured to stay active, though the screen will only stay on for 10 minutes. The screen saver isn't triggered, and monitors aren't affected by timeouts. I found a discussion suggesting using the disc cleanup tool to clean up Windows update logs, which might help. I plan to try it at home and observe the results.

I think I'll give it another shot. After experimenting a bit, I changed the action for "What does the power button do" to "Turn off the display." It's strange but when I press the power button, the screen fades to black as expected—just like the timeout animation—but then it comes back instantly! The monitor even displayed the input I was using at that moment, as if switching inputs or restarting the graphics card. I'm still puzzled. I suspect this might relate to the graphics driver or card, but I haven't found any relevant settings in the Nvidia control panel. When I have more time, I'll try it again with my Intel HD 4600 integrated board to see if it works differently.

Ensure you have a driver or application active that's stopping shutdown, then perform a fresh installation of Windows 10. This approach typically resolves around 99% of such issues.

I performed a fresh setup and verified there were no obstacles causing the display to power down. (such as origin, Steam, or background tasks...)

I think the problem could be the graphics card drivers related. Meaning if you have the latest drivers, then sadly there is nthing you can do beside wait for newer drivers.

I tried this today and changed from my dedicated graphics card to the integrated HD 4600. The same happened—when I turned off the display, the screen would briefly fade before coming back on. It doesn’t seem related to the graphics cards or drivers, but rather to Windows 10. Something is preventing the system from timing out. I even closed as many tasks as possible in Task Manager, but the issue persisted. Hope Microsoft releases a fix or update soon.
