When attempting to launch a .msc file, especially in advanced settings like Windows Firewall, I encounter the message "How do you want to open this .msc file?" I'm unsure why this occurs since I haven't made any changes or modifications to Windows. I'm reaching out to the community for possible guidance.

Open the Note Pad application. Select the file via the right-click menu and choose Use Notepad++.

The process doesn't work on Windows 10 because the advanced settings file is an .msc file and it opens automatically, whereas yours doesn't behave that way.

It doesn't seem to be working, but I appreciate you checking. I might need to reinstall Windows.

Launch the Registry Editor (regedit in RUN). Go to - Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts. Remove the .msc folder. This usually clears file links.
