windows 10 issues
I own a Toshiba Satellite P775D-S7303 that was initially running Windows 7 and later upgraded to Windows 10 about a year ago. It has operated smoothly without significant problems. Recently, during startup, the screen displays "preparing automatic repair" beneath the Windows logo, followed by a blue error message stating "Recovery: There was a problem with a device connected to your PC. An unexpected I/O error has occurred. Error code: 0xc00000e9." I pressed F8 to access startup settings and attempted to enter safe mode, but instead of a clean boot, another blue screen appeared with the text: "The operating system couldn't be loaded because the kernel is missing or contains errors. File: \WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe Error code: 0xc00000e9. You'll need to use recovery tools." This issue persists after trying various options from the startup menu. I think a fresh Windows installation from a USB drive—since my optical drive isn't functioning—might resolve the problems, though I'm struggling to boot from BIOS using USB. I've experimented with pressing F and holding the escape key for three seconds, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm uncertain about next steps and would appreciate any advice.
I couldn't find the "del" key in Windows 8 or 10, but I found that a quick start-up can block access to BIOS. Since my dad uses Windows 7 and F2 works for him, it’s unclear what’s happening with you. You might want to check the HDD health without replacing it—there are tests you can run to see if the drive is failing.
you could boot with a linux usb and do some hdd diagnostics from there. or if you're not too familiar with linux, you'll probably have to remove that drive from the laptop and connect it to another windows pc either by sata cables or use a usb to sata adapter if you have one, and use a program like CrystalDiskinfo .sometimes, i connect a faulty hdd to another windows pc and just run a chkdsk and it sorts out itself 60% of the time, unless it's an I/O error.
