Hello! You're on Windows 8.1 64-bit and want to upgrade to Windows 10 using MediaCreationToolx64. Since you didn’t want to format or lose your data, make sure you follow the setup steps carefully. If the tool doesn’t work as expected, double-check that you’re installing it from a trusted source and that your system meets the requirements before proceeding.

Installing from an ISO doesn’t always erase your data. Make sure you back up important files before proceeding.

Ensure your data is safely stored before proceeding. In practice, if you decide to retain files and settings, it should be fine. However, consider performing a clean installation afterward to minimize issues, and always back up everything again.

Save the ISO file. Open Rufus, select the USB drive, and import the ISO. Launch the installation process via the USB and complete it.

You can back up your PC before cleaning install Windows 10. There are tools available that help preserve the entire system, including registry settings and installed applications, so you won’t have to reinstall anything. Many users prefer this approach to avoid repeating the same setup after a boot issue.

Perhaps I try it, though I’m concerned about possible mistakes in my computer and would prefer a fresh start if needed.

I recently purchased a portable storage device and plan to create backups at home, install the latest Windows 10 there, and then recover my data from those backups.

How many programs are available? Probably not all of them need backups—just the configuration files and installation files might be enough.
