Windows 10 is the latest operating system for Windows.
I acquired an older ASUS cm1730, which might seem outdated to some, but it’s my first real desktop setup. I see value in its M4A7BLT-M board and the AMD Phenom II X6 chip, currently running at 2.80 GHz. While some prefer Windows 7 over 10, personal preference doesn’t matter for me. One benefit of my previous laptop was Windows 10, and I’d love that same experience here. My main concerns are where to purchase Windows 10—disc, USB, or download? And most importantly, which retailer is safe, given the many questionable sites out there? Also, do you know if Windows goes on sale during Black Friday? If so, I could wait. I’ve heard some people get Windows 10 for free with older OS versions, even though those deals have ended, but they seem less reliable despite appearing official. What are your thoughts?
There are similar options available for around $20, but I’m not sure how to find them easily.
Thank you for the reply! Indeed, I share your concern—$20 for Windows 10 definitely raises red flags.
It sounds a bit suspicious, though I’m not sure how much to worry about. There are places offering items for around twenty dollars.
In terms of performance, 10 is superior. Whether people prefer 10 or not, it’s clearly better objectively. Depending on your RAM capacity, you might be able to upgrade to a 32-bit version instead of a 64-bit one. You can purchase it from retail stores on disks or USB drives, or download it directly from Microsoft. There are some subreddits that offer it at very low prices, such as g2a or kinguin. While they might function and are inexpensive, they’re unreliable. Around Black Friday, when I worked at Frys, Windows never went on sale, so I wouldn’t bother waiting.
Thanks for your reply! I'll take a closer look. And yes, it seems clear that Windows 10 performs better than Windows 7, though personal opinion plays a role.
Agreed, it's true that some individuals in positions of authority may misuse their influence.
You can obtain a media creation tool by downloading it from the provided link. Once installed, you only need a USB flash drive for setup. You can install it without a key and later purchase one from Microsoft after installation. There are no more legitimate options than that. Alternatively, you can run it continuously without activation, though a watermark appears in the bottom right corner and some settings remain restricted (you can still perform most actions, but not via the settings menu).
Windows 10 offers a free upgrade path if you own Windows 7 or 8.1. I strongly suggest taking advantage of that option. You can utilize the Windows 10 media creation tool provided by Microsoft—just run it from your existing system and use the media you created. If you prefer purchasing a new version, Kinguin has consistently delivered quality products for around $20–30. A Phenom II X6 should comfortably support Windows 10, as I upgraded my ex’s older 1100t build to it without any problems.
