Windows 10 is quite accessible for unauthorized access.
I recently attempted to gain access to Windows 10 using EFI USB Booting and it functioned smoothly. The essential steps are: ensure BIOS/UEFI isn<|pad|>, confirm USB boot capability, verify the drive is accessible, rename necessary system files (like osk.exe and cmd.exe), restart to Windows, use the on-screen keyboard in Accessibility Center, create a user, add them to administrators, and log in. It’s worth noting this method may not work on every system due to BIOS restrictions, and it raises concerns about Microsoft addressing such issues.
This can be bypassed using a case lock, UEFI password, and disabling USB boot.
It's hard to protect yourself if someone can physically reach the device. It's similar to saying, "If a person has a tank, they can break into your house—so the person who built your door is terrible."
The typical user doesn<|pad|> to avoid this. That’s the intention. You can safeguard everything with careful planning. Most Windows users aren’t aware of this. Just a hint. Case lock, as @KarathKasun mentioned earlier. No external USB ports or CD drives allowed. Encrypt your drive and you’re well protected.
You can also turn on encryption, which prevents this from functioning for data retrieval.
Normal users are more inclined to do this now since it's an option they're instructed to enable on their phones.
