Linus presented a showcase of the windows embedded version tailored to be impressive. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise represents the earlier embedded releases. Can we explore ways to adapt this for a workstation or gaming setup while stripping away unnecessary features, ads, and Microsoft excess? I understand setting up a VM to run as a DC and an SCCM controller could work, but the ongoing maintenance seems less appealing compared to OTA updates. Anyone has ideas on this?

Understanding the settings menu makes it easy to avoid bloat and ads. For those avoiding Microsoft tools, Linux is a great alternative.

That's a clever joke. However, if you assume every key setting is in the main menu, you should also check out the hidden options, ads, and other features you might not want enabled.

The ad environment is something you adjust in the settings panel. Telemetry refers to the standard large-scale data collected by every device and website from you. If you're overly cautious about this, consider also avoiding cell phones and internet use, since all that information ends up with entities other than Microsoft. Most individuals aren't aware that disabling telemetry offers no real protection.

As discussed earlier, I aim to assess the feasibility of a minimal Windows 10 setup that I can customize instead of beginning with the complete edition and attempting to remove everything unnecessary while preserving what’s truly important. I don’t require extensive data collection like Windows 10 does. Honestly, I’m content with basic usage metrics, provided my files aren’t automatically sent to external services for improvement purposes. Standard installs often include features power users won’t need, yet Linux can provide capabilities such as DirectX, which some users depend on. I hope others can help make this idea more practical.

All your documents aren’t being saved; it’s just basic data. Like any other app or site you’ve used before. Unless you’re wondering if 1TB of videos could fit in a 16kb file…? What else matters isn’t important? Desktop screens? File manager? Just boot into safe mode with the command prompt, really minimal setup.
