Windows 10 installation issues, followed by a fresh Windows 11 setup.
I have a Windows 10 system that became corrupted and couldn't be upgraded with any patches. After several attempts, I decided to purchase another NVMe drive and plan to dual boot both Windows 11 and the old OS. That didn’t go well. I discovered my Windows 10 partition was missing recovery files, which led me to read about cloning the old partition onto the new drive. Unfortunately, that attempt failed, and now I’m stuck with broken boot options. I recently reformatted everything and reinstalled Windows 11, but I’m unsure how to recover the original drive. I’ve tried fixing the MBR and other settings, but nothing worked.
Have you explored making a Windows 10 media drive or USB, starting from there, and trying to fix the installation? Also, I recalled reading somewhere that Windows 11 might serve as a repair tool for older Windows setups, though I couldn’t locate the exact reference elsewhere.
I didn't notice you mentioned that attempts were made, both manually and automatically, but they didn't work out.
Have you explored the media creation tool USB option Microsoft provides? It differs from the automatic Windows recovery process. Just in case, if it fails, you can extract data from the drive during the current Windows 11 setup. As long as you instruct the PC to boot from the W11 drive, the W10 should appear in Explorer normally and allow access to needed files. Installed programs won't be reachable, but this seems acceptable given your commitment to a W11 installation.
I’m not tied to Windows 11. I initially thought about delaying but couldn’t make any updates on October 10th. For safety, I planned to transition gradually from 10 to 11.

You can obtain the W10 media creation utility here. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software.../windows10
Check the newer features or updates beyond W11 to find the missing tool.
Click the "Download tool now" option in the "Create W10 installation media" area... The file suggests it's the W10 21H2 release. I verified by downloading and checking it, confirming it matches W10. If you need to resolve an issue with your W10 setup, using the provided W10 media creation utility is recommended. Ensure only the defective disk is installed and that you're configured to boot from the USB installer generated with the tool.
