You're facing a tricky setup situation with your old PC. It seems the system is trying to boot Windows 10 but isn't recognizing the storage drives, even after using the ISO image. The hardware details you provided suggest a mix of AMD and Gigabyte components, which can complicate things. Regarding your questions: SSD support via PCIe M.2 adapters is possible, but compatibility depends on both the motherboard and the BIOS version. Since you're already seeing issues with an M.2 SSD, it might help to verify that your BIOS supports modern SSD booting features or consider using a USB drive instead of an M.2 slot for testing. If you're still stuck, reaching out to a tech support forum or checking the official BIOS documentation for your motherboard could provide clearer guidance.

Confirm your goal: are you attempting to start from a USB copy of Windows 10 you created, or from the Windows 10 already installed on your system?

I searched for "windows 10 iso," saved it, and burned it onto an SD card. I connected it to my system and attempted to install Windows 10 on the main SSD. The process is different from using a USB drive as the operating system.

I'm planning to reinstall the Windows 10 installer onto the SD card again. It seems fine to try, though I'm unsure what else to do at the moment.

Maybe use a USB stick instead of an SD card

It's an SD card with an adapter. I followed the exact steps a month ago for my brother's PC, but it isn't working properly now. I'm wondering if I might have made a mistake during the installation process when downloading the installer, so I'm trying it again.

You're asking about the process of burning ISO images onto a drive. Rufus is the recommended tool for this task, providing guidance on necessary adjustments and downloading any required files to ensure proper functionality.

I only have a Mac available at the moment, so I checked out this YouTube video that was really helpful. Now I’ve secured a Windows laptop and am trying an installation drive right now.

You aim to set up WIN10 on a specific drive in your PC. You should generate an installation USB, not a portable version. Refer to the official Microsoft Support guide for detailed instructions. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...windows_10

Concerning the version you require, please find the download link here: https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/software...ndows10ISO. You should use a USB stick, not an SD card with an adapter, and ensure it's formatted as FAT32. It seems Windows is optimized for installation via USB or CD-ROM, which might explain why using an SD card isn't working for you. I also suggest using Rufus, as recommended by others.
