It looks like Windows 8.1 with a traditional start menu, installed on an i3 laptop, is functioning properly.

Microsoft did a good job, but my Windows 8.1 feels like Windows 7, yet runs smoothly at 8.1 speed. Windows 10 isn’t meeting my needs, so I’ll keep using 8.1.

It seems like you're recalling a frustrating experience with Windows 8 during bootcamp. That situation definitely wasn't ideal!

I’d suggest it only if you’re interested in reviewing the updates before the final version and using the Windows Feedback app to share your thoughts. It’s rare for Microsoft to let users critique the entire operating system together, so I believe we should try to make the most of this opportunity to address issues and add new features. Up until now, Windows 10 has been quite similar to Windows 8.1, with only some major changes and minor tweaks elsewhere. Perhaps this time we’ll get a much smoother, more refined version—similar to how Windows 7 stood in comparison to Windows 8.

I'm planning to build a virtual machine definitely ^^ I won't install an unstable version on a dedicated partition though.

It's performing well so far. I'm thinking about making it my regular choice too.
