It was awful, but it was a highly reliable operating system for software, which probably explains why it lasted so long.

I've been using it for a while now, but honestly it just doesn't feel right anymore.

It was the sole presence for the longest duration, yet that doesn't imply it was beneficial.

I sense a strong concern about this so-called free update. It seems Microsoft might be planning something unexpected, similar to the NVIDIA 970 3.5GB issue.

I see the point you're making about progress. It feels incomplete and scattered across different elements like 7, 8, vista, XP, and Windows 98. The design needs a clearer direction and consistency in style. There are still UI components from over ten years old that clutter the interface, especially for desktop users. The start menu works, but the popup for the clock is now too large and intrusive. I’d prefer a cleaner experience—like a modern look with a cohesive theme. The new settings panel takes up too much space and uses a white background, which doesn’t match the overall design. Metro mode is problematic for power users because disabling it blocks metro apps, and it also affects performance. Overall, while the list continues, I hope it becomes more refined before the next update.

I tried the beta version briefly. The release looks more refined. It feels quite natural from version 8.1. In the beta, I managed to create an MS account and set a local password for login, but I can't locate it anymore.

It's essentially a soft rollout. They bring it to a working condition, but it will receive ongoing updates over the next several years to enhance it with new capabilities and eliminate outdated elements. There are two key phases: around October (roughly) for the main launch and another year when Redstone is introduced. (This would resemble a mix of a service/expansion bundle and what Windows 11 might have looked like without the final version being the last release.)

It’s the launch day and things never quite go right. I’ve heard you’re a bit too delicate sometimes.
