Windows Update has reached the new Windows 10 threshold. On your PC, it’s paused at 32% in the main circle and 6% during feature and driver installation. Should you force shut it down or let it finish? It’s been stuck here for two hours. For reference, my laptop installed and updated the same update after I started it on my PC, taking roughly 15 minutes.

Is there any additional storage device connected to the computer, such as an SD card?

Issue occurred on my surface 3. To resolve it, remove any external media like SD cards.

My device worked without issues. Make sure no external storage is connected. I faced a GPU driver issue after an update, which I fixed by reinstalling them. Best of luck!

No external memory connected. Would your phone still work? It’s currently plugged in. The rest includes the printer, scanner, mouse, and keyboard. Edit: I’m going to power it off completely and check.

Consider disconnecting the printer and scanner just in case. Microsoft is aware of this issue. For those in the insider program, discontinue using insider preview builds as well. After that, attempt an update. http://www.windowscentral.com/how-preven...ting-stuck

Yeah, I unplugged everything but the keyboard and mouse and it worked. The scary bit though is that I came back to a black screen. I did force shut down my PC, and when it started up again, the update did install correctly. I'm not sure why it came to a black screen before though.

This situation has occurred before with me too. I disconnected the devices from my PC, and a simple update resolved the issue. Such occurrences are not unusual.

There seems to be an unusual problem where the computer freezes into a black screen but doesn’t power off completely. Once it restarts by itself, it’s likely a driver-related issue—even after removing the phone. It also appears the PC won’t turn on when the phone is connected. Clearing the installation might help, especially since you recently updated the graphics driver.

Start by clearing the CMOS first. This resets your BIOS to its standard configuration. Also, verify that all updates are applied.
