My computer occasionally freezes unexpectedly, even when idle (like while watching YouTube). The issue seems to happen in a strange sequence—first the video stops, then I open Task Manager to check for problems. It works fine there. Task Manager itself starts normally, but the Task Manager button freezes on my screen. When I try to restart, clicking the button doesn’t help; I’m forced to perform a hard reset. My friend had a similar setup and fixed it by updating the system. I’ve already updated, but nothing changed.

My hardware specs include an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor, Cooler Master Colored Extension Cable Kit, a Corsair DDR4 Vengeance RGB PRO 2x16GB 3200+ Ripjaw 2x16 3200 PSU, MSI MAG B550 power supply, NZXT Aer RGB 2 Single (120mm) and NZXT H510 Elite Black. I also have a Seagate HDD 3.5" 2TB ST2000DM008, a Barracuda WD Blue SN550 1TB M.2 SSD, and a Zotax GTX 1650 Super with an RTX 3070 SUPER 8GB and a 7200 RPM 500GB HDD.

I suspect RAM mixing might be the cause—checking timings, speed, and size could help. But I’m unsure what else to adjust. Any suggestions?

They also have identical schedules.

I could try it. However, the crash occurs unpredictably, which would make testing lengthy.

I'm facing the same problem after setting up my PC. It keeps behaving erratically, and I've encountered a BSoD with the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR message. It happened recently around 9:17. I was browsing YouTube when the video froze. After switching to another open tab, the clock on my machine showed 9:14, indicating time freezing for about three minutes. When I tried to shut it down via Windows, the power button didn't respond. I also checked Discord, which was completely unresponsive. Scrolling stopped working and became increasingly unstable over time. Eventually, I had to press or hold the power or restart button to get it running again. My system specs include a Ryzen 5 5600X, EVGA 3060, Asus ROG STRIX B550-A, Corsair Vengeance LPX, and several high-end components.

I also discovered the answer, though it isn't stored on my PC. I'll forward it later!

This situation occurred with me and isn’t caused by a mouse problem but relates to an SSD (assuming you have one). I discovered it online: Fixing Windows 10 freezes linked to SSD issues. I checked the web guide: How To Fix Windows 10 Freezes With SSD. It suggests verifying if the inbox AHCI driver is active. Run a command prompt with admin rights, type devmgmt.msc, right-click the AHCI controller node and choose Properties. Look for “StorAHCI.sys” in the list—this confirms the inbox driver is installed. Disable MSI for that controller in the registry: open regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SystemCurrentControlSet\EnumPCI (AHCI Controller), select Device Parameters, change the MSISupported value from “1” to “0”. Repeat this for all controllers in Device Manager. Restart your machine. For driver updates, if using a generic driver like StorAHCI, try finding the correct one for your chipset—like Intel. I noticed the driver didn’t install properly even after checking manufacturer sites. It copied files but no executable was present. In Device Manager, right-click Generic SATA controller → Update Driver Software → Browse for updates. After installation, restart and it stopped freezing. The Microsoft article mentioned disk usage capping at 100%, but I couldn’t access Task Manager during the incident. After a few hours of adjusting the registry, the problem didn’t return. If this helped, please share your experience in the comments. Thanks!

Thanks for your support! I’ll give it a shot with everything you suggested. Updating my bio did seem to help, but the issue still persists. I updated it and waited until now at 8:36 PM before it froze. I took a break to shower and then came back to the same problem. I’ll share again if things improve after trying your recommended solutions.

You've completed all the necessary actions. The device you're using is a Samsung 970 EVO 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD. Feel free to share more updates if needed.
