As a student in NSW, the Australian government provides free tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, plus Windows 10 Eduaction. I’m planning to buy a new PC without spending extra $120, and I’m curious if the Eduaction version has any software limits. Could there be ways to bypass those restrictions or disable them? Thanks!

Hey there, I see you're in Australia too. I haven't heard of them offering free stuff before. (Just a note, I'm in Victoria.) It's confusing how restrictions work sometimes.

Check the provided link thoroughly. The main variation appears to be Cortana, but there might be other subtle differences that aren't documented. You might want to download a Windows 10 Education edition and run it in a virtual machine for testing. If you have access to a free software, feel free to share it—I live in Victoria and haven’t used this before.

as you mentioned, it seems like an issue specific to NSW. You need to go through the DEA portal, then follow the free software links until you reach the new site. After that, you have to connect your NSW education account, which is a bit confusing. The whole process feels disorganized and not very well explained.

From what I gather, Windows 10 Education resembles Enterprise without Cortana. Similar to Pro and Home versions, you aren't allowed to choose a Long Term Service Branch—essentially LTSB means skipping feature updates, though security patches can be applied for a longer time. It appears you can only obtain it via volume licensing.

It seems like you're joking about typical government actions working smoothly.

It seems like that's the software you usually use, Windows 10 for free, working great!

Yeah, basically nobody gets told about all this stuff, probably to protect the government's interests.

seems comparable; we also receive something akin to the complete Office 365 for free, and wow, I've been taking advantage of that.
