I don’t have enough funds for even a new Mobo or CPU. I attempted it on Windows 8 and 8.1 but it crashed, so I ended up using Windows 7 again.

Yes, there are drivers available for Windows 8 on LAN, SATA, and USB3. Additionally, Windows 8.1 supports the USB3 drivers. This ensures compatibility with other drivers on Windows 8/8.1.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph... the dropdown for "Choose Your OS" opened, you picked Windows 8, and it displayed the relevant options.

It's a bit disappointing. Windows 10 isn't ready yet, but it's available for a year free afterward. You'll have time to prepare and buy a new motherboard. He's right—checked the manufacturer's site. Also, many companies clearly mention support for Windows 8 on packaging or UEFI BIOS, but I didn't notice any obvious branding there.

No, you can't simply switch to Windows 7. The chipset requirements are specific to Windows 8.1, so using Windows 7 won't work.

This process functions that way. When the chipset driver is only shown under Windows 7 and the manufacturer provides drivers for another operating system, they imply it should function similarly on other platforms as well.

It would fit better if you adapted it for Windows 8 as well.

I'm in agreement with you, and I've shared this with several vendors who all confirmed the same thing... they handle redundancy in this way. One reason I favor ASUS is that they would have included drivers for all required components of the MOBO, even if it were the same version for another operating system.
