I'm exploring online resources to tackle these annoying forced restarts. I discovered multiple fixes and a bug. The first fix involves editing the registry key: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX]"IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings]"UxOption"=dword:00000000. The next approach was a PowerShell script, though I can't recall it. The final fix is applying a group policy change. Interestingly, when you type "group policy" in the Start menu, it displays the options editor but just opens a blank page. This is odd. Now let's address the serious matter. The registry adjustment restores the older AU menu style, but you can't modify Windows update settings. Microsoft seems reluctant to let you change anything related to updates, possibly because they believe their current setup is optimal. Feel free to share your ideas, complaints, or thoughts. Update! To work around this, adjust permissions for the UX folder from Trustedinstaller to your account. Only then will you be able to modify the settings.

I was looking for a clarification. Also, you can configure Windows Update to alert you and arrange a reboot instead of letting it restart on its own.

No you can't. Not in home edition, there's the option to set a time to restart, but there's no area to set the time, after restart it reverts back to "automatic". Microsoft messed up BIG TIME.
