you can turn off automatic updates by going into settings and disabling the update option for your audio devices. this should let you keep using your aux jack without issues while still getting the latest features.

In Pro/Enterprise the adjustment is located under Control Panel > Updates, but it isn't available in Home.

Open the Command Prompt by pressing Windows + R, then type services.msc and press Enter. Move the cursor to Windows Update Service, click it, and select Disable it. Then go to Properties, adjust settings to Manual Startup if needed.

Then expose your computer to various threats... Poor guidance, that’s why Microsoft took control away from people. Failing to keep your system updated supports the bad guys who profit from taking advantage of users.

He wanted to know the method, so I provided the solution. With recent devices often causing more trouble than helping, I turned off automatic updates myself, and most clients I assist set them up manually. I ensure they stay current through manual checks, which helps resolve any issues before they happen and prevents problems. As long as you use your judgment and have solid audio/video and a VPN, things should be fine—probably for 99.9% of users.

Sure, your AV system will safeguard you against hardware weaknesses and zero-day software threats. There’s no justification for ignoring security patches. Updates and feature improvements are essential—disabling them because the latest release broke something is unreasonable. It’s similar to ignoring vaccinations for a child simply because someone spread misleading claims.

I agree with you, but security patches can be installed yourself without much hassle. It doesn’t seem like a huge issue. I’m not advocating against vaccinations for kids; rather, I’m suggesting waiting just a bit to confirm everything is stable this time. Updates are becoming more common now, and it’s getting harder to know why companies release faulty versions. Doing the updates manually is a safer approach these days. Once the update is out, wait a day or two, then check online to see if any unusual activity has occurred. If there are no reports after a few days, that’s good. Just be sure to install it at the right time.

This approach works well for more experienced users, though it isn't something you'd suggest for beginners. I understand the concerns, as Microsoft has made several recent changes and many users have lost data due to forced updates. Seeing people skip updates is disappointing. Ideally, Microsoft should distinguish between security patches and new features.

This discussion seems unnecessary since Windows can restore this service on demand. Alternative approaches exist, such as using the o&o shutup 10 tool or manually adjusting the registry. A method with a limited connection also functions as understood.

When you switch to manual startup, it shouldn't happen. None of the machines I've adjusted have ever turned it back on. For some of these devices, it's been more than four years and they still aren't enabled.
