Windows 10 [Assistance] Default FTP server address changes frequently (IIS)
I configured my HDD as an FTP server using the built-in IIS Manager app on Windows. Once the PC is powered on, the server launches and I can access my files via Wi-Fi through the router. I set up anonymous access so anyone with the Wi-Fi can join. My only purpose is copying and deleting data from my phone, and I don’t own a laptop. I’ve noticed I can modify the port, but changing the IP address remains fixed at 192.168.0.108. Recently, the binding dropdown changed to 192.168.0.105, and then back to 106 a few days ago. After switching to the new default (105), I can connect now—but only by altering the IP. This random IP shifting is bothersome, especially since it doesn’t follow restarts. Sometimes I restart the machine and still see the old IP, but it keeps changing unpredictably. It’s not a router problem because I can temporarily adjust settings without accessing router controls. Could you suggest alternative local FTP solutions that might work better? This setup seems suboptimal.
Network and sharing hub > Adapter settings > Right click adapter > Double click IPv4 Use the following IP Address: - IP Address : your PC's IP, adjust the last segment to a number between 1 and 255, like 50 for easy recall. It should match your router's IP (100 in this case). - Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0 - Default gateway : router IP address (192.168.0.1) DNS server: set to router IP or 8.8.8.8, 1.1.1.1, or Cloudflare. After configuring, your PC IP will remain fixed.
It appears the issue is causing connectivity problems. After a few days it worked, but now when I start my PC the internet isn't available, even though Ethernet is connected. Sometimes turning it off and on helps, but today it didn’t. I tried selecting "pick ip address automatically" and pressed OK, and the connection restored. However, the FTP server is still down. I’m planning to test downloading to see if it improves things.
You're seeing a warning about a virus, but you've already verified the download from the official site. It looks like the site is risky, and others are also concerned. Consider using a trusted antivirus or a different source for your software.
