The Windows 10 upgrade alert isn't showing up. I have a working Windows 8, so it's unclear why it's missing.

Ensure your computer runs the latest version. Look for "Windows Update" and apply all necessary patches. I needed to do this on my laptop (used rarely) before it appeared.

It confirms availability for Windows 7 and 8.1 when the system is current, authentic, and compatible. I own an updated Windows 8.1 laptop, while my sister uses a Windows 7 machine. My own PC lacks the update, possibly due to Microsoft not verifying compatibility. Similar problems appear on other Windows 8.1 setups, yet laptops always receive the patch. The upgrade alert will appear on any Windows 7 or 8.1 device after release, but not immediately unless you’ve pre-ordered it.
