I'm thinking about how I've been moving my keys between devices. This seems connected to upcoming updates where 'Windows as a Service' might be used, meaning you won't need separate keys for each device. It could mean one key works across all your Microsoft accounts with subscriptions. There might still be a need to identify your account, so a single key could cover multiple devices under your subscription. I'll test this when I get a new CPU/motherboard on the Skylake release.
Just an update—performed an install on my third computer here at home. The same CD key worked, so I did a clean install with @techguru. I skipped the CD key entry and went straight to the desktop activation, which worked perfectly. Great job!
