No advance orders are available for Windows 10. You can secure a free upgrade. Microsoft is offering upgrades in phases. Upgrade now or later—there’s a one-year window until July 29, 2016.

What a question! I'm here to help. Could you provide more details about the file or download you're referring to? That way, I can give you a better estimate.

They said it’s a 3GB drive and that it was downloading quietly over the last few weeks using the GWX icon. On the 29th it finished installing and you now have Windows 10.

No need to assume anything would happen automatically—it wouldn’t be wise. I’m unsure whether I should upgrade, since I’m hesitant about becoming a 0-day target.

It's available anytime for free after the 29th for one year, after which a fee applies. You didn't receive it during the initial wave, so you won't get it on the 29th.

3.7GB available for download. The Windows 10 version is reserved just for you to use on day one or as soon as possible without dealing with busy servers. You must upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10 to obtain it free. After upgrading, you can download your ISO and perform a clean installation of Windows 10 directly. It should resemble the version released at launch—Windows 8. At your convenience, you’ll receive a setup for Windows 7/8.1, a new product key, and the ability to save the ISO, create a DVD or USB drive. This is my assumption, but we’ll need to confirm the exact steps later.
