Windows 10 is available on Windows 7 and Windows 8, but it doesn’t completely erase your previous system data—it usually preserves what you had before and transfers it over. If you want to ensure no loss of information and access exclusive features like Forza 5 or Xbox games, backing up your files to an external drive is a solid idea. Let me know if you need more details!

Did you use Windows 7 or Windows 8 earlier? What term should I use for this product in the store?

I had seven before, I just installed it manually. Microsoft will handle all the file transfers, it's always wise to back up your files too. Keep in mind, you might not experience it once it's officially released, the store is fine, and I don't really like modern apps too much.

Save your crucial information too, just in case things don’t go as planned during the upgrade.
