I’m thinking about setting up the insider version of Windows 10. I have a few worries—will it wipe all my current files like games, music, and photos? Also, does it replace the existing W8.1 data? Those are my top concerns. Your system details: Gygabyte z97 gaming 5, Intel core i5 4690 WD Caviar Blue 1TB, Hyper X Fusion 8GB RAM.

Check the frequently asked questions section—it should provide the answers you need. I’m hoping Windows 10 doesn’t have as many issues as Windows 8.1.

On Windows 10, returning to the previous state often requires resetting and reinstalling everything.

This seems like a statement about not asking the question.

I wouldn't suggest using W10 Technical Preview as the primary operating system. I experienced multiple system failures after applying updates, and the system restore didn't resolve the issue. Restoring from an HDD image backup turned out to be necessary. It worked better when installed in a virtual machine.

Create an additional minor partition on your primary storage and launch the preview from a USB device

Consider placing it in a virtual machine such as Oracle VM Virtual Box, allowing you to verify that no data from your hard drive is transferred. Link provided: https://www.virtualbox.org/

It's a test case. Don't expect it to run continuously, and if you need help, it probably isn't the right time to ask

Hold patience for the official launch (in a few months). If it doesn’t come soon, an inexperienced user like you might make mistakes and later regret switching to a new operating system.
