Hi EMENCII, you don’t need to format the old HDD. Just use the installation CD to transfer the files directly to the SSD without cloning.

Avoid reinstalling your OS without fully wiping the SSD. Otherwise, you might face BSODs and crashes later.

What should I move? The license file or the operating system? AOMEI Backupper enables you to create a complete copy of your HDD and then transfer it to a new SSD, including everything.

You're aiming for a fresh Windows 8 setup. I understand your concerns about the hard drive space and cloning. It seems you're unsure if the installation will recognize your key again.
