Avoid doing it, but save the key just in case. You can use the app at https://www.abelssoft.de/en/windows/Helpers/MyKeyFinder to see your keys.

It varies. For standard prebuilt models such as Dell or HP, the key is usually saved in the BIOS and can be reset cleanly. For custom configurations, the key will still be required.
