Will this board boost a non-K chip's performance?
I'm setting up a gaming PC and need an overclocked i3 to avoid limiting my RX 480. It's been mentioned that the best way to overclock a non-K intel chip is with a hyper series board featuring its own base clock generator, allowing direct overclocking instead of using a multiplier. I'm considering the ASRock B150 GAMING K4/HYPER for this purpose, as it's said to support overclocking and is popular in OC discussions. However, there aren't many reviews or videos available about this board, and its specs don't mention a separate clock generator. I'm unsure if it would work well, so I'm worried about finding reliable information before making the purchase. Anyone have suggestions for another CPU that could fit without bottlenecking the RX 480? And would you mind confirming if this board actually supports overclocking non-K chips?
That board should function properly, coming from the non-Z170 selection list: On the related page for Z170 options and BIOS: http://overclocking.guide/intel-skylake-...bios-list/ You can also download BIOS directly from the manufacturer's site, choosing versions released in January or earlier, as they don't include Intel's microcode updates. It's fine to keep older BIOS files, since manufacturers usually advise against updates unless you encounter issues.
