Will there be a noticeable change in gaming performance between the 4600H and 4800H models?
Considering the Dell G5 SE, the upgrade from 4600H to 4800H costs around £85. Since you won’t be doing heavy CPU work, just browsing, a bit of coding, and mostly gaming, it’s worth evaluating whether the benefits justify the expense.
Avoid the G5 because its hinge is faulty and it’s likely to fail soon. Consider the Asus TuF A15—it performs much better in cooling and durability.
The FX504 had a completely different look and some issues. The A15 offers superior performance and is currently the top choice for gaming laptops. Avoid cutting corners on products you purchased, as poor design can lead to wasted money. It's similar to dismissing all Dell laptops because of past hinge problems, or refusing to buy Lenovo due to hinge failures, or skipping HP because of battery recalls. Always examine each model individually rather than relying on brand reputation.
It's not only the hinge breaking, but ASUS accused me of doing it themselves. They claimed I was the one who caused the damage by opening the screen cover, snapping the metal piece, and then reassembling it—yet they refused to repair it while it was still under warranty. On the other hand, Dell's support has always been outstanding. If the hinge failed, I’d trust them to fix it under warranty. If something broke on an ASUS unit, it would turn into a costly burden, or I’d have to pay a lot to fix it myself since their service isn’t reliable.
The hinge problem isn't addressed by any manufacturer. Dell is not offering repairs and won't recall defective units. Trusting you won't fix it when it breaks will only add to the hassle. Damage to the product isn't covered by warranty because it could result in lawsuits and recalls. Only OEMs will recall their items if they're severely faulty (such as HP's malfunctioning batteries).
The ASUS FX504 hinges match those of the A15, and the A15 has only recently launched. Why are you so sure these hinges perform better?
Reinforced panels and the spacing of the y pieces. The hinge points come closest together, causing more stress and increasing the chance of failure. Be careful—don’t force the lid open from the sides, as this can damage laptop hinges and avoid aggressive handling.
