Will there be a bottleneck?
Will there be a bottleneck?
I just ordered some new parts and here is what I got: Ryzen 7 3700X with 32GB of DDR4 RAM at 3600MHz paired with an RTX 3060, a Gigabyte graphics card, a 750W Corsair power supply, a WD M.2 NVMe SSD, and I upgraded from my old GTX 1080 to this new card. Some websites say that gaming will be slow if the CPU can't keep up with the GPU, but I need advice on whether this is going to cause a bottleneck or not.
It would depend on the game and how good a job you want to get like going 60 frames per second or 144 frames per second. Usually in strategy games, your computer's processor is always the problem no matter which one you use. If I had made that choice then I wouldn't swap out a 3700X, it is still a really strong CPU. What games do you play and what resolution and refresh rate?
I play on 1920 by 1080 pixels at 240 frames per second. I usually play games like CS:GO, ARMA 3, or BeamNG.drive. I am trying to figure out if buying a VR headset is the right move for me. Besides that, I play less often with games like FIFA or Siege, but mostly only with friends. Aside from those two things, I also talk about VR, so would it be an issue or a problem when it comes to something like VRChat? Or Pavlov VR? Thanks again for your reply and have a good day ahead!
The issue you need to watch out for is whether the system actually gives you the performance you want. Does it meet your frame rate and image quality needs? If yes, then we are good. If no, then I have to ask what games you play and what you need so I can tell you what upgrades might help, if anything needs fixing.
I know this well because I changed from a GTX 1080 to a new RTX 3060 card that I already owned for years. It feels like the time is right to switch up, even though the jump isn't huge. I'm still playing at 1080p with a 240hz refresh rate and lots of games. My top priorities are probably CS:GO, ARMA3, and VR stuff because I want to get into virtual reality soon. Thanks again!
I guess you should get 240 FPS in CSGO easily with a 3700X and a 3060 unless you really want a super high refresh rate. Arma 3 is very heavy on the CPU, so you probably won't see 240Hz there either. I thought VR games would run smooth though since you already have that speed. Since you're getting it now, just try some VR games and you'll know if the 3700X isn't enough for your stuff. My take is, the 3700X handles most things really well, which is why I'd rather leave it alone than upgrade to a new chip. The newer chips are faster, but that doesn't matter personally to me at all.
It all depends on the game though. In CS:GO, low settings, 1080p, and 100fps is totally fine for me because I already get a lot of frames so it feels super high. For ARMA 3, low settings with 25-30fps is playable since Koth is really intense, but VRChat works better in any setting with 60fps on 1080p and makes the game feel nice. I need to know if my CPU or GPU will be getting stuck because one isn't working fast enough for the other. Even though my last setup was just a 3060 paired with that Ryzen 7, now it's still the same processor but the graphics card changed from the old one to this new one, so I'm wondering if I might start losing some performance.
Yeah, I've got those games already and I'm not chasing big money, just worried my processor or graphics card might be slow because I moved from the 1080 to a 3060. In CS:GO, I hit around 300-400 frames per second right away, but in normal competitive matches I drop down to like 20-40fps depending on how many actions happen in the game. In VRChat I also get way more than 140 frames, though I'm not sure of the exact number.
