Will the thermal paste on your old CPU cooler require replacement?
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share that my GTX 670 has stopped working, and I was thinking about swapping it for an RX 580 because it’s known for good value.
I’ve been using a Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler for about four years now. To prevent the CPU from being limited by the new GPU, I’ve decided to overclock it, even though it’s out of warranty.
Do you think I should replace the thermal paste on my CPU? Or is it safe to go ahead? I haven’t changed it since the Hyper 212 Evo was installed a while ago.
Merry Christmas,
Curtis
I wouldn't bother unless you observe the main temperatures appearing inconsistent during OC. Then it might indicate the TIM has started to dry out and isn't working well. However, in reality, I think you probably won't need to unless the CPU has been running at full capacity continuously for many years.
