Will steam make my games lag?
Hello everyone, I previously played the pubg PC version from Steam before that. I was able to play games without using Steam, but now it seems Steam is required to open the game. Will this affect my performance or cause lag? Also, when I close Steam completely and just open it for playing pubg, what should I do? And by the way, how can I remove the overlay that appears when I open the game? It says to press shift+tab to access the Steam community. Thank you.
It won't work. You can turn off the overlay via Settings -> In-game.
Some games appear to function less effectively under the Steam license compared to when using a direct publisher DRM. I haven't faced any problems personally. If you're worried about performance impact, you can close the application once the game is open if needed. Unless your system is heavily strained or uses a single-core processor, you shouldn't notice significant differences.
Using tools like MSI Afterburner helps monitor system usage during games, revealing how your cores/threads are utilized. Often, one thread handles most tasks, leaving other cores free enough to run Steam smoothly without issues.
What kind of CPU do you have? Do you have a GPU?
Yeah, you've got nothing to worry about, my dude. Glad I could help!
For overkill, if you wanted to see how much of your CPU the steam program is using, you could do:
Ctrl+Alt+Dlt > Task Manager > Processes tab (or more details arrow nowadays). It will indicate how much it uses as a baseline. It will be tiny.
