Does putting the mousepad at an angle on the edge of your desk make it wear out sooner than if you lay it flat? I want to keep a bit of space between my wrist and the edge so my arm stays comfortable, but is this tilt causing me to tear or fray the pad faster than keeping it level?

I think, if it sticks out past the table's edge, the sharpness makes all the difference. Every time you put your hand on it, it might bend a little bit. How good the material is will decide how long it lasts. A quality pad won't wear down quickly.

I understand, so if you put a mousepad that's a bit too close to the edge of a pad without stitching, it might actually wear out faster than usual.

Yeah, that thing is really tough to use and can be washed easily. It's perfect for competitive gaming, so you should expect it to last a long time without breaking.

I use a big XL pillow and the corner has slipped off my desk slowly, This wasn't meant to happen. Looking at it now, the stitching on the edge looks okay. Yes, the edge could get loose faster if it sticks out too much. I don't see any real issues; what matters is where your mouse goes. I won't worry about how comfortable it feels for you.

Thanks for asking! I don't know if "stitching" means something else to you, but my main worry is that the top layer of fabric is coming off. Is this what people mean when they say it's fraying? If I move the mousepad over the edge, does it make more of the cloth come loose or get ripped apart?

The corner of my desk feels rougher than the main surface. If I keep rubbing there for too long, the mousepad will get worn down faster.

What does it actually mean when a mousepad gets frayed? Does that just mean little threads are coming loose from the fabric, or is it happening to the whole cloth as it starts peeling away from the rubber part?

I have a bunch of mousepads, and they're all different. Each one wears things out differently. I'm just telling you... whatever touches the edge of my desk will wear faster than what isn't touching it. Especially if your arm or hand rubs over that corner area.

Yes, the desk edge is sharp; glass, in my case. But, if any fraying happens on the edge, it will be caused by your wrist and will only show up right where your mouse goes. I can't remember when I first bought this particular pad. Probably about three quarters of a year ago, and I see no problems on regular surfaces. To date, the edge looks a little worn but not frayed. I think you really don't have a problem unless the pad is somehow broken.
