Will increasing the clock speed affect my GPU's efficiency?
I have an ASUS Dual GTX 1660 Ti, and I recently attempted an overclock using MSI Afterburner (+135 Core Clock, +1100 Memory Clock). I ran some benchmarks afterward. There were no crashes, but the temperatures stayed around 80-83, which caused thermal throttling and automatically lowered the clock. I increased the fan speed to bring the temperature down to about 75-76 during maximum load when using the Heaven Benchmark. After that, I decided to revert to the original settings since I didn’t need the extra performance. I’m curious whether overclocking will affect my GPU’s stock performance compared to before I made the change. I haven’t used the GPU at high temperatures for more than 8-10 minutes, except briefly for a game like Rainbow Six Siege for about 10 minutes.
So, regarding your main concern: will the overclock I applied impact the performance when I switch back to stock settings? Or is my current stock performance still intact? I’m aware that using the overclock might have slightly reduced lifespan, but it shouldn’t be a big issue given the short duration of use. I just want to confirm if my GPU speed remains unaffected compared to before the overclock.
Most over-clocks improve performance but at the cost of stability. In your situation, your stock setting remains unchanged. If you only ran OC benchmarks occasionally, it shouldn’t noticeably affect the hardware. Your GPU is functioning properly.
So the performance is unaffected. (excluding the fact that we reduce the power, like there is no negative factor to the gpu reducing the amount of performance it should have on stock settings when it was new)
I got the gpu like 5 days ago, to note also.
