Will I need to use the 600w cable provided with my PSU or opt for the smaller PCIe cables for my 5070ti?
I put together the computer three or four days ago and connected the 5070ti to the 600w cable from SeaSonic with the PSU. However, it seems those cables can melt with xx90 GPUs, even for 5070 models. According to an article:
Even the RTX 5070 can cause cables to melt, as reported by users. The 12VHPWR cable issues are happening again, but this time it's not a high-end card like an RTX 5080 or 5090, but a mid-tier GPU. It's worth wondering whether using multiple older, smaller PCIe cables is better than relying on the single 600w cable, especially since a 5070ti draws only about 300w and could easily melt a 600w one.
I would use the HVPWR 16-pin cable through the 8-pin PCIe to the octopus adapter.
Initially, the melting typically occurs on the GPU connector side, and this connector type remains unaffected regardless of how the other end is connected to the PSU. Secondly, even with a 5090, it's a rare occurrence (though some creators claim otherwise). With a 5070 ti, if you connect it correctly—ensuring it's fully inserted and secured, not bent—you'd have better chances of winning $5M from a lottery ticket than facing a melting problem with your card.
