Will enhancing my PSU eliminate the noise from the PSU fan during the 9070xt upgrade?
I put in my Red Devil 9070xt today with 3 8 pin connectors. It runs smoothly and efficiently. I've reduced the voltage by -60mV, and it operates stably while delivering up to 350 Watts. My CPU (5800x) uses around 95 Watts during games. I have four case fans, a 1 m.2 drive, and two SSD drives.
I upgraded from an xfx merc 6800xt with 2 8 pin connectors. My PSU is an EVGA Supernova G3 Gold 850 watt.
My problem is that before, I never noticed my PSU fan or heard it. Now, with this new card, it becomes quite loud after about two minutes of load. It's becoming a bother. (Yes, I'm sure it's the PSU fan.)
I understand Power Color suggests a 900w PSU, but my power usage is much lower than that. The CPU they recommend for comparison uses more power than mine.
My question is, will switching to a 1000 watt PSU eliminate this noise?
Hey, I saw you lowered your GPU voltage to keep it cool, but haven't looked at the VRAM temperature. The default VRAM temperature for a 9070xt red devil would rise to 90 degrees, and after undervolting the GPU, fans spin slower, leading to higher VRAM temperatures. Please check your VRAM temp in 5 minutes!
Avoid only upgrading to a quieter PSU; check the noise chart at the provided link for better options.
My VRAM gets warm when under stress. The peak reached 94° during furmark tests, but the average during gaming or 3DMark is around 86°. I changed my fan curve to be more aggressive, even with undervolt settings, which helped lower temperatures on its own.
Thank you for the update. I resolved the issue. My PSU has an "eco" setting. When switching GPUs, I accidentally turned it on. Switching it off fixed my loud fan noise and also lowered the heat in my setup. Looking up details about the "eco" mode suggests it's not designed for heavy or stressful loads.
