Will altering a part of the computer prevent it from starting?
As in not booting means there is no power to any part, just the power button has no effect, no lights, nothing.
Regarding the system: it runs both Win11 and Linux, though that shouldn't affect anything, and the motherboard is an ASRock B560M-ITX/ac with BIOS version P2.00 (an update was needed before this issue occurred).
If I attempt to modify the RAM or install a card, it won’t boot, but when I revert it back, it starts up normally.
Since Win11 is installed, TPM and SafeBoot are active, but disabling them before changing components doesn’t change the result.
I understand there should be no compatibility problems, everything is properly installed, nothing is unplugged (except power during changes), the CMOS battery is charged and working.
I suspect the safe boot settings might be preventing it from turning on when components are altered, but I haven’t seen this before on other systems, so I’m unsure what’s going on. It’s a low-priority matter, but knowing what’s happening would help. Thanks for any advice.
The message indicates no power reaching any part beyond the power button, with no response from lights or sounds. I anticipate seeing diagnostic LEDs or beep codes. Absence of these suggests a total power failure to the PSU. = = = =
So secure boot and TPM are active most of the time but disabled before shutdown when hardware changes are needed.
The RAM details remain unchanged: Patriot PC4-24000 3000MHz (2x4GB), G.Skill F4-3000C16D (2x8GB).
Previously I also experimented with different setups.
The PSU is a Thermaltake Smart BX1 650W, and there are three SATA slots in use without any M.2 drives.
Changes observed:
- Inserting a card causes no effect.
- Removing it restores normal operation.
- Switching RAM has the same impact.
Since I haven’t unplugged anything other than the power cable during component changes, the only consistent factor appears to be identical hardware components present or absent.
It seems unusual because even on systems with full security enabled, I can easily modify components without issues, which is the only scenario I’ve encountered so far.
I've already tested everything, but changing anything still prevents the computer from starting, even after a full BIOS reset. Probably I won't purchase AsRock motherboards again.
"Sadly" no, I've tried them in another machine. It's strange because everything functions properly unless I alter any part; changing components restarts it. But when I replace the original parts, it operates normally again.
