I was thinking about upgrading my Wi-Fi setup to AC5300 and AC88U in Aimesh. If I operate at 5GHz, can I still use that frequency on the AC88U?

More channels are available for sending signals on the 5 GHz band compared to 2.4 GHz, which reduces interference chances. If you remain concerned, you can set both routers to use different channels manually.

In Aimesh mode, everyone talks on the same frequency channel. You can still use that channel to communicate.

It refers to the same GHz range (2.4 or 5) or the same channel. According to what I found: it's wise not to overload a channel. If other devices are using the same channel—such as your neighbor's Wi-Fi—maintain a clear space and configure your router to operate on a less crowded channel for improved performance.
