Wifi woes
Wifi woes
I purchased a used laptop recently and am facing issues with the Wi-Fi connection. It functions properly after installing Mint, but once I reboot it, the network disappears. I thought I fixed it, yet switching to POP OS caused the system to stop booting completely. I also tried Manjaro, but it crashed when I attempted installation. I changed drivers to non-free ones and still had no luck. Below are the network details from the device: Network: Device-1: Realtek RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: rtw_pci v: N/A port: e000 bus ID: 03:00.0 IF: wlo1 state: up mac: Device-2: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: r8169 v: kernel port: d000 bus ID: 04:00.0 IF: eno1 state: down mac: For more help, you can check the Mint forum discussion here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p...0#p1828400 The system operates fine with Ethernet, but I need reliable connectivity at work and on the go.
I’m assuming the Linux kernel doesn’t fully support the network card, but the AUR has it available from this GitHub link. You might want to check the package yourself—though I’m not very experienced with Ubuntu-based systems like Mint or PopOS! To confirm, did your Manjaro installation use Etcher? Did PopOS stop working after an update or for another reason?
Manjaro was built using etcher, and POP appeared to stop unexpectedly. I attempted a reinstall of POP, but it froze. Mint restored everything properly, though the Wi-Fi problem persists. It seems the issue only appears after the first reboot.
HP gaming model 15-ec0013dx seems like disassembling will be quite tough, especially after swapping the Wi-Fi module.
The Wi-Fi module uses a DKMS compatible with Arch Linux, which works on systems like Manjaro. The main point is that the laptop has two GPUs—one integrated AMD and another dedicated NVIDIA. I’m interested in whether both appear in Windows and if one can be turned off via BIOS settings. Also, I want to know if linking an external monitor affects Manjaro’s boot display behavior.
I didn't find the Nvidia card in BIOS, but the driver manager lists its drivers. I'll remember that. I also have a tread in level one techs and will likely try their fix first. I plan to remove the Wi-Fi card from my laptop, which works with Mint, and install it on the new laptop to test. Since both are HP models, I'm aiming for the best result.
