WiFi router recommendations
Previously I owned a Netgear Nighthawk X6S that performed adequately for my needs. It offered solid coverage in my home, included a guest network, had decent processing power, and supported some advanced configurations. The main issues were reliability—its WAN connection dropped several times a year, it would crash frequently (often requiring a reboot), and there was one major reset event where everything reset to factory settings. Recently it failed completely, and I’m looking for a better option than what my ISP provided. What alternatives exist that meet your requirements? You’d like devices with strong signal range, fast hardware, guest network support, port forwarding beyond basic protocols, and compatibility with WiFi 6. I’ve heard about WiFi6 in passing, but I want to confirm it’s supported. Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially avoiding another Netgear model due to past problems.
Search results indicate GRE might function via a TCP rule on certain routers. However, GRE isn't a secure tunnel, so personal use isn't recommended. It appears to be a relatively vulnerable target for attacks.
