Can I connect a USB Wi-Fi card to my gaming setup? Will it cause higher ping or slower speeds compared to Ethernet?

Game requirements typically range from 100 KB/s to 1MB/s (remember, 1 MB/s equals 8 Mb/s and 1000 KB/s equals 1 MB/s). The main issue with Wi-Fi for gaming is higher latency and instability between the router and the card. You can still play games, but you may experience occasional lag spikes. If your router supports 5GHz, consider using a Wi-Fi card that does as well for improved performance.

It shouldn't hinder your performance because the standard 3.0 USB port offers 5Gbps, whereas typical Ethernet ports deliver 1Gbps. However, Wi-Fi often experiences delays during gaming. It should function, but using Ethernet would be more ideal.

Latency cannot compete with a cabled connection since Wi-Fi operates as a single duplex.

for ethernet i need to link a wire from the ground wire to the first floor. since i reside on the first floor and the router is on the ground floor.
